Using our story to change the world.
I am a single mom who added to my family by adopting through the foster system. I have a 23 year old son from my previous marriage (just graduated from University of Oregon- Go Ducks!) and have two young men, biological brothers, who are 16 and 17 (10th and 12th grade) and still at home with me. I started this blog years ago to chronicle the ups and downs of the adoption journey with no idea where it would take me and the myriad of lessons God continues to teach me.
Living in Northern California and working full-time from home as a non-profit executive, I felt the call to establish a voice around trauma, race, adoption, and parenting — all grounded in my faith. This call led to me to establish a consulting business focused on childhood trauma and understanding its repercussions (see this at www.kiongoziconsulting.com). Through this journey, I have made mistakes, and will undoubtedly continue to make them. I will say things that are misunderstood and are oftentimes wrong, as I continue to understand my privilege and how it colors my place, my perspective, and my voice in this world. This is a place for repentance and grace and forgiveness. In the end, what I know above all, is that it is only through God’s strength and undeserved, boundless grace that I can do any of this.
